A Quiet Read is an original oil painting of a woman enjoying one of those precious, unhurried moments at home — curled up on the sofa with a book, a cup of tea in one hand and her dog settled beside her.
I wanted to capture the particular comfort of being absorbed in a book while still surrounded by the familiar things and creatures of home. The scene is painted quite loosely, with visible, expressive brushstrokes and a gentle palette of soft pinks, creams, greys and warm browns.
There is something very ordinary about the moment, but that is what attracted me to it. It is a little celebration of reading, home, companionship and having nowhere else you need to be.
This is a small original oil painting, 20 x 20 cm, painted and signed by me. It is not a print or reproduction.
